Ulster Farmers’ Union

Ulster Farmers' Union approached Green17 to redevelop their website which had become outdated and difficult to manage for staff.

The new website required a user-friendly, clean design which would act as an information portal, be fully responsive and accessible on mobile and tablet devices, and have additional functionality to help categorise and display UFU's various content more effectively for website visitors through imagery, maps, video, and mobile apps.

We kicked off the project by firstly investigating and interpreting current visitor behaviour in Google Analytics, reviewing peer organisations and asking the right questions during initial discussions with the UFU team. Our ideas were shared and came together into a sleek design which UFU felt truly reflected the objectives and needs of their organisation.

UFU's new homepage design utilizes their high quality imagery and highlights the key work of the organisation through the display of top Issues and Results which the organisation are continuously working on. Latest news and events, office locations, membership information and direct access to the UFU portal website are also easily accessible from the homepage .

Mapping functionality works well on the site to show what goods, products and services are produced across the country, and also pinpoint the range of UFU office locations across Northern Ireland.

By clicking on individual pins, website visitors can view profiles of the management team at that location and email them directly through a short contact form.

Convenient Access to Information for Farmers through two Mobile Apps, Exclusive to UFU Members

The farming industry accounts for almost 60% of work-related fatalities and so the need to address and raise awareness of this issue during the project was of significant priority.

The Farm Safety app presents useful information in a variety of engaging forms including text, images, videos, data tables and graphs, and helps interact with end-users by including social media sharing buttons on each piece of content which will broadcast the UFU information to their own timelines for firends and family.

A Milk Price Indicator app was built which users can access through an icon on their smartphone menu. UFU regularly updates current milk prices by entering values within simple fields in their CMS. This automatically syncs with the database to populate values in a line graph, which UFU members can refer to anytime via the app.

We styled this using CSS and have included subtle animation i.e. the milk bottle on the Milk Price Indicator, which slowly fills up to indicate the price per litre.

It was a real pleasure to work with Green17 to redesign + relaunch our website. From the outset they had a detailed understanding what we wanted to achieve and provided us with a number of creative + practical ideas to help make the site more professional looking, easier to navigate site and the vast amount of information more accessible. Everything we asked for was delivered on and it was refreshing to work with people who were flexible, accommodating, and continually focused on finding solutions. Since the new site was launched we have had nothing but positive feedback.
